The Course
A slow course in film photography, run in small cohorts out of a working darkroom. Twelve weeks, one roll a week, and a crit at the end of every month. Most of the learning happens at the enlarger, not the screen.
What it covers
Loading and exposing black-and-white film, metering by eye, developer chemistry and why temperature is not a suggestion, contact sheets, choosing the frame, and printing the same negative three ways until it stops looking accidental.
Field assignments
Every second week ends with a field assignment: one location, one constraint, one roll. Recent constraints have included "no people, before 8 a.m.", "only doorways", and "the last bus home". The constraint is the teacher; the film is just evidence.
Joining
Seats are few and the waiting list is real. When a cohort opens, invitations go out by letter to the list in order. Members sign in from the front page to reach their lessons and saved work.
